menu items

This may be the best example of poorly translated menus. I can’t even guess what some of these meals might be. There’s lots more funny stuff here.

Firefox extensions

Wednesday, March 8th, 2006

I’ve grown such a list of Firefox extensions, I should post a list so I can keep track for the time comes to reinstall everything. In no particular order, here they are….

  • Linky - view a pagefull of images from a pagefull of links. Useful when checking out your friend’s photo galleries.
  • Forecastfox - what’s the weather like?
  • PDF Download - I hate PDFs opening in the browser because it locks up my system (I blame Acrobat Reader bloat, not Firefox). Now I have the choice to open them or download them.
  • IE View - open a link in Internet Explorer instead
  • IE Tab - open a link in a new Firefox tab with Internet Explorer embedded in it (this is essential for my work)
  • BugMeNot - saves me having to go to BugMeNot.com to lookup guest usernames/password. Don’t use this much.
  • Web Developer - useful for web development, viewing details about websites, css.
  • Tab Mix Plus - Tabbed browsing on steroids. Now control all your tabbed browsing options.
  • Aardvark - great for printing webpages so you can eliminate all the adds, banners and other junk which waste paper and ink
  • DownThemAll - a download manager to grab all the links off a page and download multiple files.
  • Plain Text Links - if there is an unlinked URL on the page, highlight it and this will open the link for you. Don’t bother cutting and pasting.
  • del.icio.us - quicker access to my saved links and fills in some of the forms when tagging new pages.
  • Colorzilla - color chooser so you can investigate colors inside the browser, rather than with a bunch of other tools.
  • Screengrab - take a screenshot of the entire browser window, even down past the fold.

What extensions can’t you live without? Leave a comment on your favorites.

Busy week

self portrait - mountain top

The next 2 weeks look to be a very busy time. At work, I’m winding up another release of my software. I’m going to the gym at least twice a week. And there’s these following events I’m looking forward to attending:

Toronto Raptors vs Cleveland Cavaliers, Wednesday March 8th, 7pm. My best friend was given tickets to see the game and his wife can no longer go with him… so I get to take her place. 15th row! Sweet.

Rannie’s Portraits in the Park Thursday March 9th from 8 to 10 pm at the Toronto Free Gallery

Toronto Ruby on Rails pub night, Monday, March 13th @ 7pm at C’est What?

Toronto Area Photobloggers Get Together - March 16th @ 7pm at C’est What

And I’m hoping to get back to photoblogging again soon. The recent events have killed my artistic joy and spirituality, but I think it’s important to get back into it again. It frustrates me that I was less than one week away from completing my “365 days in a row” goal, but I don’t think I’ll deny myself the joy of saying I completed that goal. Close enough, I say. And I think that once my taxes are completed, I’ll use my refund to get that new camera I’ve been waiting for. I’ve been waiting a long time and I’m definitely committed to pursuing my photography as a long-term hobby/artistic endeavour. I’ve had great compliments from friends/family/strangers that they like my work a lot. Time to enter into more exhibitions/shows/publishings.

A friend of mine just sent me a link to this exhibit, Ashes and Snow. It’s nothing short of beautiful and amazing. The photography is so tranquil. Man swimming with whales and elephants. Children sitting next to cheetahs. I definitely want to see this exhibit if it comes anywhere near Canada again. It’s currently on display in Santa Monica, CA and was previously in New York City.
