wow. unimpressed.
j and i rented crank last night. i’ve been waiting for it to come out to video for a while. my expectations weren’t that high for it, but i did like the transporter films which jason statham has done in the past. and i like his acting from snatch, lock stock and 2 smoking barrels, and the italian job. so i was very disappointed when i watched crank. i had heard it’s nonstop action so i was really looking forward to the usual sort. but the script was terrible, the filming style was erratic in order to tell the nature of the drugged scenes, but it was so hard to watch. 15 minutes in, j and i looked at each other with the face of “this is so bad”. it’s a short film, under 90 mins, but it felt like forever. i wish i had that time back. there were a couple quick minutes that were enjoyable, but they were too few and far between.
possible spoiler – the scary part is they finished the end of the movie with “Chev Chelios” possibly still alive. opportunity for a sequel.
go watch the italian job or the transporter instead if you want to watch jason statham in some action.

I saw this movie last night funnily enough and thought it was ok. It wasn’t the worst film ever but not the greatest, some parts were just really good, it had some funny moments but others were embarassingly bad, also I think the storyline was good but at times all over the place.
Snatch is one of my favourite films. Nice blog by the way!

It was SUPPOSED TO BE over-the-top and somewhat cheesy. Holy crap. I hate bad action movies, but Crank was creative and very well done. I agree with “Shazza” on you people getting a sense of humor.
and wtf is with that last sentence? chev chelios wasn’t left alive, he jumped off the chopper with verona and hit the car like 200 mph and then just bounced off to be in the first plan of the screen and he blinks one more time (you know, you don’t die instantly when you crash into the floor, at least if you didn’t go head down)

Every movie has a time and place. I think crank was awesome. Its an action-packed-cheesy-funny-leave-your-brain-at-the-door kind of film.. and thats just the way I like it. I really doesn’t have a great plot, but then again thats the whole idea behind the movie. It’s full of sarcasm and completely unafraid to ignore realism. Also note that racist and sexist jokes are still funny (unless they are fueled by real hate or ignorance). Critics of this kind of movie believe that every single movie in existence has to be some kind of tragedy or romantic comedy… YES! THIS MOVIE IS COMPLETE-MINDLESS-ACTION-VIOLENCE-FUN AND I LOVED IT.

Hoping this film would be more like the transporter(s) seems a bit bass-ackwards. Admittedly the first one was pulled through by Luc Besson and had some fun scenes but really did anyone watch more then 10 minutes of Transporter 2…? I nearly didn’t see one this because Trans2 was so awful.
When you have seen as many films as I have (working bum jobs at video shops in my youth – 3k in rentals) and still today watching an average of 1.5 films per day you start to really appreciate fresh cinema!
Crank was refreshing, silly and yes in the last half hour started to peter out. But altogether a good, fresh action movie. I think maybe you missed a few of the moments that really made that movie. Cutting off a man’s hand and exclaiming “That was awesome!”, hitmen missing each other and exploding pet canaries, getting ‘cranked’ on boxes of nose decongestant to stay alive. These things aren’t seen every day…
It’s funny my partner and I do the same thing if a movie is terrible we look at each other & stop the movie usually pdq. Like Batman Begins… awful, awful movie – how did you two go on that? imdb gives it 8/10 and I tried it twice and hated it both times!
Anyway only saw ur image (while scouring the net for an image to go on my ripped copy of this very good film..) and decided to add my 2 cents. I don’t know if (or why) anyone would care what is said in here anyway…

It follows the poignant scene where he leaves a farewell on his girlfriends answer machine. Did you seriously think he wasn’t dead!?
You should both see this film again when you have seen about a thousand more films to expand your frame of reference. Or else stick to Mission Impossible, What Women Want, The Green Mile – whatever..

normally I don’t reply on blogs. but when I read this one, I had to say a couple of words. I loved that movie… There’s alot og ironic in it and the filming, bad effects…. I thought it was supposed to be like that… it’s a genre in it self…. It’s kinda same humour as in Planet Terror og Death Proof! It was fuckin’ entertaining to watch!

this summer i watched over 70 movies( from the godfather to wild strawberries, passing over amelie and coming into no country for old men) and Crank is probably the one i most enjoyed…so go to yer bonsai class, yer yoga scum…and don’t trash up statham

WTF, I loved Crank it was one of the greatest and most original action movies I’ve seen in my life. You need to lay off the chronic. The acting was superb scripting was incredible (I don’t know what the hell you’re talking about) and no, he was dead at the end, that was a motor reflex no body get poisoned and falls 800 feet onto a car and lives, and they let him die because it’s one of those rare movies that isn’t just thrown out to make money and actually entertains you realistically. Ahhh, but you can’t fix stupid go rent “Meet The Spartans” and be happy.
I watched this film last night. Not what I was expecting but very funny. I didn’t realise Jason had a sense of humour. He lives at the end because from that height he would have gone straight through a car and not bounced. Plus he’s going to be a dad. Plus the message that he leaves his girlfriend is the reason he wants to live. He finally found someone to believe in. The power of true love and a serious amount of substances coursing through his body. The doctor said in the early part of the film that the only cure was a serious overdose of adrenaline. Well falling out of a plane without a parachute would do it for me. Overall, a funny film and the way it was filmed really makes you feel the sense of urgency.
