Strobox – lighting diagrams on the IPhone
January 4th, 2010
Here’s a cool little app I found for all the photographers also taking notes on their iPhones. Strobox allows you to quickly drag and drop the standard lighting setup icons around your screen. Good if you don’t have your notebook handy and need a reference. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like you can put notes on camera or light settings but maybe that will be added in future upgrades. But I can’t complain much since afterall this app is free. Search for Strobox in the App Store.
photos.blainekendall.com makes it in Canada’s National Post newspaper
May 14th, 2009
Pick up a National Post newspaper today, turn to page A15 (first section!!) and you’ll find the url to my photoblog (http://photos.blainekendall.com). The article is about Toronto becomes one of world’s 10 most photographed cities. That doesn’t surprise me. It seems like Toronto has such a huge group of photobloggers and definitely some of the best. But maybe I’m biased.
Thanks to Sam (A Daily Dose of Imagery http://wvs.topleftpixel.com) for sending the report my way. To be included in the list of “noteworthy” photoblogs (of which I’m a subscriber to almost all of them), is always flattering. The last time I was in this league was when I achieved 3rd place in the 2006 Canadian blog awards for “best photo/art blog”

Make your images into polaroids
Poladroid makes your images look like desaturated polaroids. If you’ve got some fond memories of the now defunct polaroid cameras, download poladroid for your mac and turn digital pics into something that feels old and familiar.
enlightened – sports photography exhibit
July 17th, 2008There’s a photo exhibit going on at Toronto’s Steam Whistle Art Gallery (near Rogers Centre). Claiming some of the best action sports photography, I think it would be worthwhile to check it out. The website is pretty empty on details, but hopefully the show has some good work. It’s only on until July 30th, so get there before it’s gone.
jill greenberg
March 8th, 2008i’ve been checking out a lot of inspring photographers lately since i haven’t had much time to actually do any shooting. jill greenberg (manipulator.com) has a very specific look and i really like it. i’m going to try to shoot some work like this. lighting isn’t cheap, so i might have to be very creative instead. check out some of jill’s great work. you’ve likely seen some of her commercial work already.

Flickr Tilt Viewer
December 17th, 2007A cool way to view your Flickr photos
I came across an interesting Flickr viewer today. Airtight Interactive has created a Flickr TiltViewer. You can spin the plane of photos around, click an image to zoom and view it, move them around. It’s brings a 3D dimension to a 2D world of photography.
Try it out… view my Flickr portfolio in the Tilt Viewer
Control with the Mouse:
* Click images to zoom-in, click again to zoom-out.
* Click the background to zoom-out.
* Click the ‘reload’ button (below the image grid) to load a new set of images.
* Click the ‘flip’ button (bottom-right of a zoomed-in image) to see image details.
Hack the URL to view your own images if you want to try it out.
