back in operation

I’ve got this blog back up and running again. I had to mess around with templates and stuff when I upgraded. I also figured while I’m at it, I should add in the photo of the day from my photoblog site. So now you see at the top right the image of the day. Updated every day. I have to thank my friend Doug [strangebreed.ca] for the php code. He’s recently started a photoblog as well. Check his site…he’s got streaming music with requests and all sorts of funny stuff. The dreams section is my favorite.

The benefit of switching

For the past 2 evenings after work, I have been reminded of the benefit of switching to my new Mac. The Mac just always works, you don’t have to mess around with it.

Earlier this week, on my PC (I still need it for some tasks) I somehow got a virus (funny that it happened around the same time as I was upgrading my firewall – another thing I don’t have to mess with on the Mac). So I’ve spent the past 2 evenings trying to remove this virus. And it was a tricky one. It was a DLL loading into memory before I could login to shut it down and I couldn’t delete the file as it was in use, so Windows locks the file. Rebooting in Safe Mode wouldn’t work either. I cleared the file out of the registry as well. The virus scanners could detect it (thankfully), but couldn’t repair or delete the file either as it was in use. Soooo frustrating.

I finally had to resort to downloading a Linux Live CD (Lindows, actually), booting that CD and then going into the Windows file system to delete the file. Such a hack just to prevent stupid issues.

2 nights of productivity gone. Think of what you earn per hour. Add up those hours for the 2 evenings of work lost. Still think a Mac is more expensive than a PC? Add the cost of all your wasted time from virus prevention, configuration, windows updates & reboots and you’ll see the total cost of ownership for a PC is much more than a Mac. And that’s just on one occasion. Stuff like this happens at least once a month. When I first started using my Mac, I immediately noticed I didn’t have to do this stuff anymore, it all just worked.

This weekend, I plan on spending some time at my Mac. Just enjoying using it. Not worrying about frustrating viruses, updates, etc. As soon as I sit at the Mac, it’s just ready to do what I want to do, not what the computer wants to prevent me from doing.

‘Arrested Development’ gets the ax

Arrested Development

CNN.com – ‘Arrested Development’ gets the ax – Nov 11, 2005

The Bluth clan of Fox’s ratings-challenged “Arrested Development” is also headed for the exit after Fox cut the third-season order on the Emmy-winning comedy to 13 episodes.

I can’t believe the best show on tv is getting cut. I still don’t know why people don’t tune into this show. It’s hilarious. Smarter & funnier than 90% of the shows out there, it’s on Seinfeld’s level. How is it that the stupidest shows like According to Jim and Yes Dear are still on, while brilliant shows like AD get cut?

Shouldn’t it mean something that celebs are dying to get cameos on the show because they know it’s so funny? Everyone wants a piece of this show, yet the ratings don’t reflect it.

I’m hoping Fox soon reconsiders like they did with Family Guy. Family Guy was cut completely off the air, fans bought a ton of DVD seasons and it made Fox realize there’s still a huge audience for that show. I urge all AD fans to buy the tv seasons on DVD to show your support for the show. I’ve got Season2 so far (thanks sis), I’ll be asking for Season1 for Xmas and I’ll pick up Season 3 when it’s released. Even watching this show repeatedly still makes me laugh. The jokes are so subtle. Maybe that’s why people don’t like the show – you have to pay attention and listen for the jokes, instead of hearing the lame laughtrack and laughing along with it like typical comedies.

AAaagh. So frustrating.

Watch your step

Upgrades are underway, so things don’t look like they’re supposed to right now. I’m busy upgrading and haven’t finished the process yet so it’s a mis-mash of what it’s supposed to look like. Everything should be completed over the next day or so.

Kanye entertains

As expected, a great show from Kanye last night. I’ve been accused on this blog of having my head up Kanye’s ass, but I’m just a fan of good music and smart rhymes. J really enjoyed the show as well. She was dancing in her seat. A full 1.5 hour set tired her out.

Keyshia Cole was good as well. Not too excited about Fantasia’s music though.

I’ve posted photos from the concert at my flickr photos.

Touch The Sky!

I gotta testify, come up in the spot looking extra fly……For the day i die, I’ma touch the sky

Tonight’s gonna be a fun time. I surprised J with a pair of tickets to the Kanye West concert tonight. This will be the 3rd time I’ve seen him. Her first. When the tour was announced, I decided she might like to see him, so I ordered a set of tickets when they went on sale but never told J about it. Then shortly after that, he was on Saturday Night Live. She watched his performance and said “If he ever comes on tour here again, I want to go see him”. Perfect! She didn’t know about the tour at all, nor did she know I had got tickets. I kept it secret until just a few days ago when I gave her the tickets. She was jumping up and down! She liked College Dropout a lot, but loves Late Registration. The CD is constantly in the car stereo.

We’ve got great seats tonight, near the front of the stage. I’m looking forward to seeing J excited when he comes on. And yesterday just happened to be our 1.5 year wedding anniversary (heck, I’ll take credit for any kind of anniversary that I can). It should be a blast tonight. Maybe I’ll even get some photos.
